About the Directors
Ms. Jackie Bryant
Band and Orchestra Director
Ms. Bryant is currently the band and orchestra teacher at Thunder Hill Elementary School in Columbia, MD. She was formerly the instrumental music teacher at Church Lane Elementary and Milbrook Elementary in Baltimore County, MD from 2010 t0 2016. She is the current director for the Howard County Elementary School Honor Band, an extracurricular representational ensemble for outstanding elementary band students.
Ms. Bryant graduated from Towson University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Music Education (K-12). At Towson, she was an active participant in the Symphonic Band, Marching Band, and Clarinet Quartet. She went on to earn her Master of Music in Clarinet Performance from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, where she performed with the Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Winds, Opera Orchestra, inaugural Harmoniemusik Ensemble, and was the graduate assistant for the music admissions office. Recently, Ms. Bryant has participated in the Maryland All-State Community Band from 2013-2020.
In her free time, Ms. Bryant is a member of the clarinet section for the Columbia Concert Band, Greenspring Valley Orchestra, and Category Five Wind Ensemble. She loves to watch the Ravens, read, and go to the beach.
Mr. Jim Javorsky
Mr. Javorsky is currently the chorus director and general music teacher at Thunder Hill Elementary School. This will be his 14th year teaching, and his 4th year at Thunder Hill.
Mr. Javorsky majored in voice at Bowling Green State University and graduated with a degree in K-12 Music Education. He later earned a master's degree from the American College of Education, as well as the American Kodály Institute at Loyola University, Maryland, where he is currently on staff. Mr. Javorsky has also worked with the American Kodály Children's Chorus of Baltimore, teaching musicianship classes to students K-12, as well as co-directed the Howard County Children's Chorus.
Outside of school, Mr. Javorsky loves to run, bake, play with his dog, and spend time with his husband and son.
